Hi. I'm trying to trace my paternal side of my family. My great great grandfather was Daniel Warren and I know he came from Inchigeelagh. He was born in the mid 1800's and his Dad was Cornelius. They came over to London. I have spoken to somebody locally from Inchigeelagh before who suggested that Warren may not have been their real surname, they gave it when they came to England. Apparently this was a common thing to do especially for manual workers. I believe there was a Warren Court in the area? So it could be true. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how I can trace their real names? I do have a photo of Daniel. Many thanks

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The RC records for Inchigeelagh/Iveleary RC parish are available on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie  I scanned the records and there are Warren baptismal records for the parish including children of Cornelius Warren and Mary Leary. Do you know the name of Daniel's mother?  The only Daniel Warren baptismal record was in 1842 but the parents were Pat Warren and Norry Crean.

  • Hello Roger. Many thanks for your reply. I have just checked Daniel's marriage certificate and it said he was 30 years old and the certificate was dated 1872. It does list his father as Cornelius and said he was a labourer. Sadly I don't know the name of his mother. So it does sound possibly that it could be the 2nd couple you mention as the dates sound right. Maybe there was some confusion about the name of his father, maybe a mix up of first and middle name. Thanks for the lead I shall investigate further!
