Patrick Nelligan, born abt 1800 in Doneraile. Parents unknown, but Patrick had a brother William with a family in Doneraile as of 1829. This information is from a book "Peter Robinson Settlers", Carol Bennett.
Other information from same book-Patrick immigrated to Canada in 1823 on the ship "Stakesby", with other "Peter Robinson settlers". He was single, but married before 1826 where he is shown as a couple in a report. He married Cathrine Buckley, another Peter Robinson settler from County Cork. Their first child, William was born in 1829. The family was residing near Ottawa, Ontario (Bytown in 1820's). They baptized their children at Basilique de Notre Dame in Ottawa.
Any information on the family in Doneraile would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Michelle,
Yes you are correct Patrick traveled alone onboard the 'Stakesby' age 23/24 and came from Doneraile
The problem is that RC records from Doneraile are only available from 1815 onwards , civil registration did not take place till 1864.
But I did find one Nelligan family living in Doneraile in 1823 the year that Patrick left
A Thomas Nelligan owned land in the townland of Brough in Doneraile. county Cork
Strange enough there is no William to be found anywhere.
In 1851 there is a John Nelligan still living in Brough, also a Francis in the same townland both paying rent to the Viscount Doneraile.
Below all the Nelligans in direct area of Doneraile
Surname Forename Townland/Street Parish County Year Nelligan Jno Ballyhooly Ballyhooly Cork 1834 Nelligan Ballyhooly Ballyhooly Cork 1834 Nelligan John Ballyhooly Ballyhooly Cork 1834 Nelligan Widow Ballyhooly Ballyhooly Cork 1834 Nelligan John Ballyhooly Ballyhooly Cork 1834 Nelligan Thomas Brough Doneraile Cork 1833 Hope this helps a little
