My gg grandparents--MARGARET GORMAN and PATRICK QUINLAN and one child emigrated from Castletownroche, County Cork to NYC in 1849 and 1850.  The other children followed in 1851.  One died at sea.  If anyone has info on their families or their friends/families from Castletownroche, I'd be glad to hear it.  Here is the list: David Hennessy and Johanna Hanlon--marriage witnesses Patrick Donovan and Bridget Mulcahy--godparents Edmond Glover and Ellen Quinlan--godparents John Regan and Ellen Credon--godparents Thomas Gorman and Mary Carey--godparents Daniel Walsh and Elizabeth Gorman--godparents

    Could you please provide some additional information, such as dates, etc. This will help people to identify and find out information for you.

    There are Roman Catholic church records available for the diocese of Castletownroche (Cloyne). These date from 1811 for both baptismal and marriage records. You can find these at the National Library of Ireland, Pos. 4995; b.1835-, m.1845-, 4996. If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for more assistance. You could also try this website: http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/

    There is a book by Tim Cadogan called 'Tracing your Cork ancestors', 1998.

    You could try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64). The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38): Microfilm copies of the books for all of Ireland are available at the National Archives of Ireland (NAI) http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/tithe-applotment-books-and-the-primary-griffith-valuation/ or the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS).     Civil registration records are available from the General Register Office (GRO). These start from 1864. You can access the website here: http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm
