  • Hi:

Many thanks for your query to Ireland Reaching Out.

I have had a look in the Tulla Parish registers for you, and unfortunately the year 1822 has a lot of gaps, and therefore there are only 6 months available.  There isn't any Scully entry for that year or the year before (1821) and the baptism register has no entries for the years 1823 or 1824.

However,  I took a quick look at the Clare Library website and I note that there is a Connor Scully living in Feakle in the Tithe Applotment Book (1826) and a Patrick Scully living in Feakle in the Griffith's Valuation, 1855.

Do you have any other informatiion, if so, please email me at:  tulla@irelandxo.com, and I will see what I can do for you.

  • Hi,

Your information about Patrick Scully is of great interest to me.  I have been searching for a Bridget Scully for many years and only know that once married, she lived not far from Tulla - about 14 miles or so.  I have no information, despite extensive research, as to the names of her parents or her place of origin. Bridget would have been born around 1825 but that could be out by a few years as it is only an estimate. Given the lack of official records from that time in that area the only hope I have of finding anything new is from information of Scully descendants in or around that area. I have the baptism records of most of her children but a marriage record for her does not exist for her according to the Clare Heritage Centre.  She would, however, have been married in or around 1838-1840.  I believe, from circumstantial evidence, that she died some time in the 1880's. I also note from Jane's post (thank you Jane for your work) that Feakle is a possibility for this family.  Tulla is not far from Feakle and is a possibility given the era and the transport which would have been used. I wonder if this could be a sister of your Patrick. I don't know if these two people are connected but if other Scully descendants have information we may be able to put together some pieces of this puzzle. Here's hoping.
