Hello, I have a fairly well researched family tree for my mothers family that originated in Ballymacrinnen. My mother's great great great grandfather's name is James Cleary; his son's name is John who was born in 1806. His wife, Jane McKnight was born in 1805. John's son, James married Bridget Frawley during Feb. 1860 and five years later they emmigrated to America. However well researched, there is no indication of James' siblings, Michael, Eliza and Bridget on whether they accompanied  him to America. My goal is to find this out and find cousins seperated by an ocean and time. Thank you, Kevin Kelley

  • Kevin:

You may want to check out the 1901 census for Killimer parish. www.nationalarchives.ie There are a number of Clearys. I found a Michael Cleary aged 70 and his wife Lucy in Carrowdotia North townland living with a James Cleary who possibly was his son or a nephew.

  • Hello Kevin,

I believe we are cousins as this is my Cleary family line as well. Your James Cleary would have been the brother of Michael, both them ended up in Seneca Falls, NY. My sister, Karen has been researching our family for some time and while we are limited on our Cleary information we do have proof that Michael is Jean/Jane McKnight and John Cleary's son..through so due dillegence we have pieced together the Cleary. now Clary family of Seneca Falls together..to some degree.

I am sure my sister would love to speak with you some on this.

  • I was just looking through the tutorial on Message Boards and looked up My Messages and found your message to me from May 2015. This is an interesting development as I usually focus on the greater famliy after I'm sure of what I have found. I have quite a bit on Michael Clary, born 1832. Was married to Bridget Scarrie and later to Frances McCarthy. Sorry for the seven year lapse, I'd be glad to discuss the relationship and I know a couple of cousins who'd like to join in. One is a direct decendant of Michael. Kevin Kelley
