Thomas Maroney married Bridget Sheehan on February 20, 1882 in Balooghra Killadysert - fathers were William Maroney and Thomas Sheehan.  I am looking for any information about either the Sheehan or Maroney Family in Killadysert - prior to 1882 - Thomas and Bridget came to Buffalo/USA after the birth of their son Thomas in 1883 ( I think) - I can find no civil record of my great grandmother Mary Maroney the second child of Bridget and Thomas so I am assuming they left Killadysert in the mid 1880 - I am very new to this and so appreciate any help you could send me.

  • Dear Dewey3:

Many thanks for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board and welcome!

The Kildysart parish registers are available online through the National Library of Ireland and start in 1829.  Unfortunately, the digitisation done by the LDS church only goes to 1881, but you may find information useful.

In addition, the Clare Library is a wonderful online resource for anyone with Clare ancestry.  The parish of Killadysert link is listed below and you should check out the sources available through there.

In addition, Irish Genealogy, an online initiative of the Irish Government has put all online registration events through their website although only the index is fully available.  However, many registration events (births, marriages and deaths) are available and being uploaded in bunches.  Their website is:

I note your comments about being unable to find a civil record.  You might need to look for spelling variations such as Moroney/Morony/Marony/Maroney.

If you need further assistance, please let me know.  There are some very good local historical publications out in that area that you might be interested in.

    Kind regards,

    Jane.
