Searching for Talty's in Clare

Do you know much about their emigration? Dates, the reason why they left, etc.? Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. You could try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64). The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38): Microfilm copies of the books for all of Ireland are available at the National Archives of Ireland (NAI) http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/tithe-applotment-books-and-the-primary-griffith-valuation/ or the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS). Ireland Reaching Out

Thanks so much!  That is a lot of info.  I will research and see what I can find out.  My other side of the family is the McHale family.  All I know is that my grandmother was I believe born in Leeds, England, but was Irish, I assume her family moved to England in the 1800s.  Any advise on that one?  I was once told they originated in Mayo.

We have a branch of Talty in the family, from Kilrush. To US 1830 late 1840's. Talty families in Clare were scarce through the famine years. The names you list are similar, will find many Talty's settled in Dubuque, IA and Waterloo, IA. The Talty head in Iowa is Peter P. Talty. Contact if any similarities. regards, C. Lynch 

My ancestors settled in Dixon, Illinois, which is fairly close.  I don't know the middle name of the Peter Talty who was born in Ireland, but know that he was born on March 8, 1948.  He had a son Peter Francis Talty, born in 1879 in Harmon, IL.  Interesting that you have ancestors that settled in Waterloo as I have family there as well.

Sorry to reply so late, out of town. In Waterloo the Name Peter Paul Talty born 1844, had a brother Hugh Talty and other family in Dubuque, Iowa. They came thru Canada about 1848.  from Miltown Malbay, Carhduff, County Clare. you may want to check out ancestry.com and plug in his name and look at family trees.  There are sites that reference this family and other Talty's. Hi There, I am Talty from West Clare and can tell you that all Talty's originated from this locality. I have some intormation of family that emmigrated in 1800's but would need more information. Parish of origin is Kilfarboy.

I have a family tree on ancestry also, but thanks for the other hints. The tree is "Talty". I have a Matthew Talty that migrated to Kilrush circa 1820-30 and had a yard and shop in Kilrush. I believe he delt in tackle etc. for horses. Born circa 1800 and originally from Glendine South, Miltown Malbay. I don't know if he connects with your kilrush Talty's.
