Hi I'm trying to trace my great great grandparents. Timothy Maher and Margaret Reilly. Timothy was a farmer.  They had a daughter Margaret born 1844 in County Clare(my great grandmother). I have tried searching everything that I am able too and all name variants. I am now at a loss its almost as though they dont exist.

My great grandmother Margaret came to Australia I do not know if Timothy and Margaret came with her or what year, but Margaret married in 1861 and on her marriage certificate it stated her parents as Timothy Maher farmer  and Margaret Rielly (also not sure it also may be Kelly) writing is very difficult to read.

On her second marriage certificate in 1879 it states her parents as Edward Marr  farmer and Margaret Rielly. On all her certificates Margarets surname is spelt Meagher. I have tried all these variants and I am now at a loss. Any help would be most grateful.

Thanks Marie

I went to the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing which is available on the Co. Clare library site. I found a Timothy Maher in Drummin townland in Kilseily civil parish. This parish is in East Clare.

There were no Timothy Meagher or Timothy Marrs listed. If your Timothy was still alive in 1855, it is possible that this is the correct record.

The Co. Clare library site is a very good resource for genealogy research.

  • Hi Roger

Thank you for that I found a Timothy Maher on the Griffiths Valuation thank you I  hope this is the right Timothy. I would gather Timothy and Margaret would probably have married around 1835 to 1844 era

are there any marriage records for that time and where is it best to search. I am so grateful for your help I have no Idea if my great grandmother had brothers and sisters or Aunts and Uncles so I have no idea what Im looking for at the moment.

Thank you again for your help.

    Regards Marie
