Hi there,
I am looking for a town listed on a relatives record in New York that does not appear to exist in Cavan. Her record lists her birth, her parents as well, as 'Furner Farron'. Spelled elsewhere in the record as 'Fomer Farron' and 'Funer Farron' ...County Cavan. I've googled and search elsewhere and come up with nothing. As she could not read and write I'm guessing it was up to the taker of information to spell it out to the best of their ability.
If anyone can offer a suggestion I'd much appreciate it.
Thank you,
Lisa Kelley

Hi Lisa and Margot, this name Farnham is an estate in Cavan now a luxery hotel. Lord Farnham (Maxwell) were large landowners there. So it may be the estate you are looking for, it is also a street in Cavan town.
https://cavanwalkinghistory.ie/farnham-street/ If you Google the name you will get the hotel and a photo of the house / hotel.
Good Luck & Hope this is it.

Perhaps it is Upper Fartan or Lower Fartan?
Please let us know your ancestor's name and birth date so we can look at the record.
Thanks.

I apologize, I didn't see the replies until this morning. Somewhere in my files I have the scan of the record but here is her information:
Mary Byrns(Burns etc) parish records have her name spelled Bryns. Born 1841 in County Cavan,no specific month given on the 1900 Federal census. Her husband was James Reid. He died in 1871in Billis. She died in White Plains NY in 1906. This particular record is after she came to New York and was admitted to the Almshouse in Westchester County for a time. As tuberculosis was rife amongst many family members, I am assuming this was the reason. Medical records, other than the admission record are nearly impossible to obtain. If they even exist any longer.
The original record has Furner Farron spelled all three ways on the one record.
Thank you for the replies! I appreciate anyone who takes the time to reply.

Lisa, On what seems to be Mary's birth record in August 1841 (from the pay site rootsireland) her father is given as Hugh Bryns and her mother is given as Mary Kelly. Of significance is that the place of birth is given as Cavan parish/district. Cavan town, which is likely to be the place, would be a 'district'. Cavan town is in Urney parish. The only townland in Urney that bears any resemblance to Fomer Farron (or something like that) is Farnham. This is also called Fearnan. There is no other townland in Urney (Cavan district) beginning with 'F'. Best wishes, Kieran

Thank you Kieran! I appreciate your time and effort. Irish records, after 50 years!, are fairly new to me. That one year of high school Latin has come in handy with parish records ;) Thank you so much.
