So far while trying to figure out my Irish great grandparents past I do have 5 copies of vital documents or newspaper clippings that explains part of my great grandfather John James Nolan's past that may also give clues about my great grandmother Anna M. Glynn's past. I will add them here as attachments.

  • If you were to follow up the Nolan side, in Cavan they might have information on Anne Glynn. From information you posted it seems he used his nearest town in Cavan as Black Lion. He was born 6 Feb 1896.

You could try Cavan section of this website, or you could chance just writing a letter to Nolan Family, Cornahaw, Blacklion, Co. Cavan, Ireland.

In 1940 Census They have Francis 17, John 16, William 14, Thomas 12, Rita 11, Mary 9 all children born in New Jersey. Could you check NJ records for 1918 - 1922 for marriage record.

Can you obtain more information from Holy Cross Cemetery Arlington, i.e. D.O.D of Anne Nolan?

You still have not given any concrete information to verify her in Ireland. You have for John Nolan. You have his D.O.B. and place of Birth.

If you obtain this copy cert cost 4 euro it would verify the DOB to be absolutely sure you have the correct John James Nolan.

The DOB of Anna would be of similar use. Do you know for sure her emmigration record and Year?

  • I am assuming Anna Glynn was born 1894-1895 as her age is one more than her husbnd John in 1940 Census. I still feel we lack verification information from your side to confirm.

There is a promising find in Ellisisland.org for an Anne Glynn that may fit your enquiries.

Annie Glynn of Balla, Co Mayo year of travel 1912 To friend Mrs Murphy 43 Hermon St, Jersey City.

She was 5' 6" Fair Complexion, Fair Hair and Blue Eyes. A group of seven from Balla (pronounanced Bal) travelled together. A Delia Adams also travelled to Jersey City.

Her father is down as Patt Glynn of Rush Hill Balla, Co. Mayo.

Rush Hill is in the Parish of Manulla.

I checked the census and I came across a Head of Family Pat Glynn in a townland adjoining Rush Hill called Drumloughra. You could find out the church for this parish and write to the priest to see if he has her baptismal record.

  • Hi, thank you for trying to help me figure out about my great grandmother but Im also figuring that If my great grandmother Anna M. Glynn is age 44 during the Us 1940 census then that means if I subtract 44 from 1940 that makes her birth year 1896. Then I looked at the 1911 census records for Ireland and subtracted 1896 from 1911 that makes her age 15 and since it looks like her middle name starts with the letter m according to her handwritting with her signature, not unless some people wrote a cursive k that looks like an m, that would be interesting to know. When you indicated about the Glynn house in county Mayo, it could be a possibility but when I looked at residents of a house 23 in Sheares St. around Kilmallock, county Limerick Ireland is a possiblity but would have a weird twist because the surname of that house is Mc Glynn, the head of that family is a car driver and a labourer but then if I look at the 1901 census for Kilmallock, county Limerick Ireland I come across residents of a house 150 in Kilmallock town around Kilmallock, county Limerick Ireland and while looking at the names of the people that lived there it seems like maybe the same family lived in house 150 and then moved to house 23 unless its just a weird coincidence. The head of the family for house 150 is also a car driver and instead of being a labourer is a shopkeeper. Also the surname for house 150 is Glynn. What this all means to me is that it seems the odds are great that my great grandmother came either from Limerick or Mayo in Ireland. Also what was a car driver? Is that the same as a taxi driver or chauffer for a limousine? Im guessing that during those times their was no limousines but something close to a horse and buggy?

  • Hello Mary :-) Let me see if I can understand this correctly since I'm checking the 1911 Irish census record, of course since John James Nolan is my great grandfather, your grandfather Patrick(John's brother would be my great Uncle). That also means all of John and Patricks other siblings would be Mary, Kate, Peter, Bess and Alice. Therefore Mary that would make you my Aunt? Wow, this is getting really interesting; I wonder how many other missing leaves or branches we will find. :-)
