Looking for any information on my great great grandfather George Ryan born c1806 Rockfield or Portlongfield married to Mary Ann Morrow born c1800 in same townland. Had a son James, my great grandfather, b 28 May 1836 who married Rebecca Gallagher b1836 on 6 January 1859. One of there children was my grandfather John Ryan b1873 who married, 1 October 1908, Margaret Emily Parke b1879 in Drumlonan, Ballinamore, Leitrim. Most or all of these people were Church of Ireland. Any information especially on the female side would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Have you tried looking in Church records for information?
Church of Ireland parish registers for the period up to 1870-are public records. Registers are available for about one third of the parishes, however many were destroyed in the Public Records Office in Dublin in 1922. Most are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland (http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ ) and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin (http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 ). A list of all surviving registers is available in the National Archives. The Anglican Record Project is has created an index to their records: http://ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/AngRecord/bunclodyunionindex.pdf
www.familysearch.org has some records available online.
Civil registration became mandatory in Ireland in 1864, so you may be able to find records relating to the families here. These records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:

You can search the indexes to these records online at:

For more information go to: http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/Irish-civil-registration.html
You could also check for record of the families in the land acts pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Some other websites that you may find helpful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm

Irish Times: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/index.htm

I hope that this is helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
