  • In this version of the census, the husband is listed as Thomas Brown aged 40. (Be aware that adult ages were rounded down to the nearest 5 in the 1841 census).

  • Thank you so much! Do you know how to find out the birth of Thomas Brown Sr and who his parents were? Thank you for your help!

  • You would need to look for Thomas?s baptism. You don?t say what denomination he was. If he was Church of Ireland then they have baptisms from 1735 onwards. All other denominations don?t have anything much before around 1835.

If they were Church of Ireland, then you need to know that there are 3 churches in the parish, at Arvath, Derrylane and Killeshandra itself. The first two don?t have any records as far back as 1800, only Killeshandra does. They are not on-line anywhere, so far as I know. (rootsireland has some for the parish but only from 1831 onwards). There is a copy of the earlier records in PRONI in Belfast and there may also be one in the RCB library in Dublin. Both require a personal visit to view them.
