We recently found my great-grandmother Ann Kilkenny McGinnis in an 1841 census in Corranea Glebe House 6 with her parents Edward and Bridget (nee Smith) Kilkenny. In House 7 was John Kilkenny and family. The census reports John's parents died in the previous 10 yrs and their names were Lanty and Ann Kilkenny. Is it reasonable to assume that Edward and John were brothers and Lanty and Ann were Edward's parents also? Lanty can be found in 1832 in the same community in the Tithe Applotment Books. Any help with the Kilkenny families in Corranea Glebe would be appreciated.

Elizabeth:
RC church records for Killeshandra begin in 1835 which prevents you from looking for the marriage records for the two Kilkenny families to see if a fathers name was included.
I would say that it is very reasonable to assume that John and Edward were brothers and Lanty and Ann were their parents. They likely lived on adjacent plots and from the Tithes we know that Lanty was leasing over 33 acres of land.
I looked at the 1856 Griffiths valuation head of household listing for Killeshandra. It looks like John and Edward were deceased by 1856 unless they left Ireland. It looks like John's widow Anne took over the land from John. There is also a Thomas and Thomas Jr. in Corranea Glebe.

One question. It appears from my reading Lanty is a nickname for Loughlin. Surprised there was no a son with that name in both families. Only James is repeated.
Maybe someone else will have a more informed opinion.

Roger,
Thank you for your reply. I had the same question re the first name Lanty not being passed on in this Kilkenny family. Perhaps it was a nickname he acquired and his actual given name was indeed passed on.
I have seen the Kilkenny families in this town in the Griffiths Valuation records and also much later in the 1901 and 1911 census there were still Kilkenny families in that community. Hope to connect with other descendants at some point.
Thanks again,
Beth
