  • Hi Lorraine

I looked up 1901 census see link below there re Johnstons in Knocknashammer which is a townland next door to Ardmone, the Electoral Divison is Canningstown.  There are still Johnstons ther, but when I tried the phone number in the book, it seemed disconnected

You are basically looking for any other children from the marriages & death certs, there is possible a remarriage given that the 2 names are being used.  I think that your best bet is to ask Cavan Genelogy to carry out the searches, see their info below, meanwhile if I get to see someone that may know of names & phone numbers for Johnstons for you.

Which religion did they belong to?

Civil registration records are available from the General Register Office (GRO). These start from 1864. You can access the website here:http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm Or you might try Valuations office in Dublin (http://www.valoff.ie) which will have a record of the land registry from 1855 to modern times. This will assist in seeing what happened to any land the familymay have owned (as it usually passed on to a relation).

You could also try contacting the Cavan Co Library for further assistance.
