Researching Peter McCabe and Jane Gilmer/Guilmer and any relations they may have had in the are.
They married most likely before 1830 and I know of at least two children, Johnathan, baptiszed on May 12, 1833, and Anna, baptized on November 6, 1830.
There should also be a William, most likely in 1830 and a Patrick in 1827.
Thanks,
Jill

Hi Jill,
Thank you very much for your message.
Have you tried looking at church records for more information? Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available. For Drumgoon parish, follow this link:
As you can see from the above link Cavan Genealogy Centre have copies available. If you would like to contact them here is their email, however a fee may apply:
You could also check for record of the family in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Some other websites that you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
Family Search: www.familysearch.org

Kind regards,
Emma

Hi Jill,
Do you know what religion they are as I think the names would suggest a mixed marriage at some stage, either themselves or a previous generation, this means you should not limit the church records to find them.
Best of luck with your research.. Regards Carmel

The baptism records for Johnathan and Anna are in the Parish of Drumgoon records for St. Michael's Catholic Church in Cootehill, County Cavan. I knew about Anna previously from a local priest who sent me a photocopy of Anna's baptism 10 years ago. That's also how I found out Jane's maiden name was Guilmer. Interestingly enough on my recent trop to Ireland, I did some microfilm research while in Dublin and came accross Johnathan's baptism in the same Parish but with Jane's last name spelled Gilmer..
With the spelling of Guilmer I am thinking it is possible she was french and her family came over with the Huegenots in the 1700's (as per a genealogy specialist at NLI in Dublin) but I cannot confirm that until I can locate her parents and work back from there.
Possible Peter McCabe came from Northern Ireland as well since Cootehill so close to the border...
Unfortunately I did not have the time available to do more in depth research while in Dublin.
Thanks,
Jill
