I am seeking information about the family of Peter Martin who died tragically in a cycling accident near where he was living at the time ( late 1970s); Mountfield , Omagh, County Tyrone. He was taken to Cootehill to be buried as his family had originally been from there. His mother, Mrs Martin had been taken there when she died several years earlier. The family had been in Tyrone for perhaps 40 years and there may have been a Marron connection as a Patrick Marron was with them into the 1950s. Thanks for any information.

I searched the death records for the Omagh area from 1864 to 1900 but did not find a single person named Peter Martin who died there. There was a Peter Martin who died in Cootehill in 1875 aged 64. That was the nearest. That death is not on-line free yet so I can’t give you nay information about it. You would need to purchase a copy of the death certificate to see the details.

I'm very sorry for putting you to this bother. I made a mistake in my post and it should have said that Peter Martin died in the 1970s. I was hoping that someone locally would know of this family. I don't know if a headstone was erected but they must have had a family connection as they chose to have their burial in Cootehill. I have spoken to my cousin who went to the burial around 1978.

1970s does make a bit of a difference. Glad you have amended the year in your initial post.
I would search for Peter’s death certificate. Death certificates for the 1970s are not on-line. They are accessible, just not on-line. If you can get to GRONI or PRONI in Belfast, you can look them up. If you can’t get there in person you can either e-mail or phone GRONI and ask them to search for you (there may be a search fee) or you could get a researcher to do it for you. Researchers in the PRONI area: http://sgni.net
Once you have found the date of death, you may be able to search for a probate file for Peter too. (PRONI has those). Again they are not on-line – for the 1970s anyway – but a researcher can look it up for you. The probate file should contain information about next of kin, and if Peter left a will, then that may prove helpful in identifying close family.
There is likely to be a coroner’s report too, but that is probably closed at present, as the event was within the past 100 years.
With a date of death you also might search local newspapers for a report on the accident. Copies of most newspapers in Northern Ireland are held in Belfast Central Library. (Personal visit required to view them).

Thanks for that. My main interest is in his possible half brother, Patrick Marron and where he may have went. Some say Australia so I was hoping someone may have known Mrs Martin and whether she may have been married to a Marron first. I will find out some more about her death use your methods as I don't even know her first name or her maiden name. Thus I cannot find her in the 1911 Census. Thanks again for responding.
