I am trying to establish where Hugh Kindlan and his wife Susan nee Callaghan are buried in County Cavan. The family lived at Killycleare (Knappagh) near Drumgoon. They married about 1862 or 1863 and Hugh was dead before 1901. Susan was still alive in 1911 and was on the census of that year with her grandaughter Rose aged 11 who was born in Dublin. Hugh and Susan had a number of children including Hugh who was born in 1870. This Hugh married Agnes Davis in Dublin in 1896. Agnes was from Portrane in County Dublin. I have searched Chapel Midway on a couple of occasions but failed to find a headstone. Perhaps there is none or that they are buried elsewhere near Drumgoon. What other graveyards are near there?.

Hi Pat,
Sorry, I wont be able to give you the attention I wish I could, I am in college & busy at the moment.
However the name Kindla, around this way can be Cundelan, Kindlon and many other variations. With regard to where they buried, for some reason families did not bury in the closest graveyard. In deed my own family went 20 miles in the worst winter imagineable in the early 1900s passing 4 graveyards to bury their dead. The closest graveyards to Drumgoon, would be Middlechapel, so called because it is midway between Maudabawn and Cootehill, there is also an old cemetary in Drumgoon, full of sunken graves. I know there is Callaghans in Middlechapel and in Shercock, but it is not that old, my own family dont got back that far as regards headstones, and Killann old cemetary between Bailieborough and Shercock is where they are buried but in unmarked graves. Moybologue in Tierworker is where my O'Reilly family are buried it is on the Meath Cavan border and a very exiciting graveyard and seems to be the preferred choice for a lot of families, has lots of headstones and history.
There are poskets of Kinlons in the Shercock area and it is frequent around Carrickmacross/ Magheracloone area.
May I suggest you look at the Tithe applotments or Griffiths valuations and even if you wish to look up the Land valuations in the Irish Life centre focusing on the townland you mention, you may identify the names.
Where do you live, I guess Dublin, anyway, if you are down this way, I would love to show where those graveyards are. Let me know if this is of any help to you.
Regards Carmel

The old cemetery in drumgoon now has a Facebook page. A lot of work done last year recording 735 graves. Check DRUMGOON HILL OLD GRAVEYARD on Facebook and historicgraves.ie
