I am searching for James Wallace born around 1804 in County Cavan.  He was married to Mary Anne Saunderson and his son Robert was born in Cootehill around 1834.

  • Hi Pam,

Civil Registeration does not start until 1864 however we have some substitutes ie:

I looked up Griffiths Valuations - see link below & there are 4 possible candidates 2 in Drung, 1 in Kildrumsherdan & 1 in Knockbride, any of them could have had a son born in Cootehill.  This is a list of people who leased land so they would have been farmers.

When you say Cootehill, is that where he was baptised or it may be where his mother was from, do you have a townland, that is what we need to find unless you know it is the town of Cootehill.

I looked back further to 1833 on the tithe applotments - please see this link

I then looked up family search.org ( al these sites I mention are free) & I found this link & I would suggest that you would get a copy of the death cert & see does it match with the birth/baptism details you have for Robert.  You can get a copy from family search libraries in US,( latter day saints) I have never done this but I believe you order the microfiche & locate the cert with the vol & page details.  Best of luck with your search & please let me know how you got on & maybe some day you will come to visit us & I could show you around. Regards Carmel
