Hi, I've found an entry for her death but can find no other info about her burial and wondered if anyone can help with identifying her or if there are any local records about her?

"Rachael Irwin - Date of Registration:1873, Death Age:74, Registration district:Cootehill, Volume:3, Page:134, FHL Film Number:101586"

The first and only mention I have of her prior to her death is in 1847 when she appears on her daughter's wedding cert. Her daughter was marrying William Alexander Kinkade in Killikere.  At that time Rachael and her husband John IRWIN lived in Togher, Cavan.

If this is my Rachael, she would be my G-G-G-G-Grandmother.  Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Justine

  • Hi Col,

Thank you for your reply - however Irwin is her married name, so that birth record would not apply.

I do not know her birth name yet, which is why I am hoping to find more about this death/burial....even something as simple as where she might be buried in/around Cootehill or maybe a grave inscription that might give me a clue.  Yes, they were Church of Ireland.

The next step is ordering this Death cert from GRO but given that I live in Australia its expensive and takes ages :-)

  • You can order a photocopy of the certificate from GRO Roscommon for €4 (euros).  http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx

You have to download and print off the form. Then either post or fax it back to them. You can’t e-mail it to them. However if you want them to e-mail the cert to back to you, they will do that, so tick the relevant box.

Put the reference details on the form (anywhere). Don’t worry about leaving some boxes blank. As long as GRO have the location, name(s), year, quarter (where there is one), volume and page number they should find it.
