Good day to everyone-
Cahaley is my family surname. It has had various spellings over the years, so it makes it difficult to find my family in Ireland. A kind gentleman steered me from Rosecommons to Drumgoon in Cavan because I see John and Peter Cahaley were baptised in 1847 and 1845 respectively. John Cahaley is their father, and Catherine Murphy is their mother. If anyone has a connection with this family, please let me know.
We will be visiting IRE in 2014 and would like to spend time where my ancestors lived.
Thank you.

I looked in the 1901 Irish census and there?s no-one spelled Cahaley, Cahaly or Cahala. Those spellings were evidently unknown in Ireland at that date. However spelling did vary a lot, and so that doesn?t mean too much. The spelling often changed again when people moved overseas.
There were 2 Cahilly households in the 1901 census, both in Cavan. One was a farm in Tullyunshin, and the other a woman living alone in Croley. You might be interested in those families and townlands.

Cahilly is also found in Griffiths Valuation. There were 8 in Drumgoon parish and a few others elsewhere in Ireland, in 1857.
