  • Hi N

Sorry your post hasn't been answered earlier but I've tried a few times to find Robert & Eliza without much success.

www.rootsireland.ie/ has 7 Eliza / Elizabeth McDonnells born in Armagh 1841 + - 5 years but none is from Tartaraghan

The site only has records for Tartaraghan Presbyterean & Civil Parishes so if there are RC records somewhere perhaps she is there - do you know her denomination? I assume Protestant as she married a missionary?

No luck with Robert birth/baptisms in Armagh; there are a few from other Ulster counties - could he have been born elsewhere and moved when young?

HOWEVER after all that their marriage record showed up:

    Date of Marriage:12-Mar-1868Parish / District:TARTARAGHAN CI

So I had another search for Robert with father John 1841 + - 10 years & this is the only one:

    Name:Robert CliffordDate of Birth:

    Date of Baptism:16-Oct-1831Address:
    Parish/District:BallymacarrettGender:

    Denomination:Church Of Ireland

I had a look for Eliza with father James but no Protestants in Armagh I'm afraid - unless she was a convert?

  • Col,

Sorry I've been away from home for a few weeks and just caught up with your Message Board Post.

Thanks for the trouble you have gone to. It is much appreciated.

I will look at some of the info you posted and see if I can match up. Particularly interested in the Robert Clifford & his wife Eliza Jane McDonnell post. Not sure about her religion. Only know from Marriage Certificate -

Eliza Jane Mc Donnell  married Robert Clifford in St.Pauls Church of Ireland Tataraghan 12th March 1868 Registration No. M/1868/S1/1179/4/49 Registration District - Craigavon.

At date of marriage Robert Resided at Ballinary - Rank or Profession was "Labourer"

His father John Clifford was Farmer.

Eliza Jane Resided  at Gallrock had no profession

Her father James McDonnell was a Farmer

Robert and Eliza Jane  emigrated (circa 1868 - 71) to Coatbridge Scotland and were recorded in 1871 Scotland Census.(Don't know if their parents emigrated also ?)

Death Certificate - shows Robert died in Coatbridge Scotland in 1886 and Rank or Profession was shown as "Missionary".

Roberts father John Clifford was listed as small farmer - Deceased. -  Roberts mother was  Ann Jane Clifford - Maiden/Name Riddell - Deceased.

Death Certificate Eliza Jane died in Coatbridge Scotland in 1920

Eliza Janes  father James McDonald (McDonnell ?) was listed as farm labourer - Deceased - Eliza Janes  mother was Isabella McDonald (McDonnell ?)   Maiden / Name Platt.- Deceased.

    Will keep in touch.

    Cheers

    Norm Clifford
