  • Hi Margaret.  Confirming her mother is very difficult.  I strongly believe that her mother was a Montgomery hence why she stayed with this family.  However, this is just my thoughts and shouldn't be taken as fact.  I have spent hours trying to find avenues to more information and drove myself completely crazy.

What would be really helpful is if someone found her birth registered in a parish record.  It is likely that no one told Rose who her mother was, I have read some family documents and they all state Armagh as her birthplace and her father as Parker Synnot.

My great grandmother wrote a family tree sheet out and on there it says that Rose took the name Montgomery.

Haven't found any official records yet but information from family trees on the Ancestry website suggests that Rose's mother was Sarah Kelly, also born in Armagh.  Sarah died aged 24 years in Glasgow.  Do you know if Rose had a brother?  Charles Synnot seems to have been a brother of Rose [also a son of Parker George Synnot].  He was born in 1858 in Armagh and died 1940 in Glasgow.

Ballymoyer, Armagh may be a good place to source birth records.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi

My grandfather was Charles Synnot. Born under the name of Charles Kelly on 31/01/1858 in Ballintate, Ballymoyer, Co Armagh. Died in Bridgeton, Glasgow on 10/07/1940. His mother, Sarah Kelly, died on 27/07/1859 also in Bridgeton, Glasgow (Death Cert is in the name Cynot). Charles was therfore only 18 months old when his mother died. He was brought up by his grandmother (also named) Sarah Kelly MS McIlroy and with her other 6 children, in Glasgow.

Charles changed his name from Kelly to Synnot when he was about 13. I have a Poor Relief Report of 14/11/1871 relating to Charles which says " ... boy brought up under the name of Charles Kelly." but the name on the report is "Charles Kelly Synnot".

If anyone wished more information, please send me your email address.

I would also like to know all there is to know about Rose Synnot, whom I believe shares the same father (but I do NOT think, the same mother) as Charles Synnot.

  • Hi there

I am working on a Synnot report with a descendancy chart and narratives where available.  It currently has 28 generations, some more reliable/accurate than others.  I am interested in including Charles and Rose as accurately as possible.  If anyone is interested in providing an update on this blog, please let me know.

Margaret - I am also in NZ.

    Cheers

  • Hi there

Kenneth, if you are still following this thread, would you mind contacting me on rexDELETE_sinnottDELETE@clear.net.nz - remove the 'DELETE's of course.  I have been researching Parker George Synnot and his brother William Forbes Synnot and the various Synnot/Kelly children born in the 1850s, it is a fascinating saga with many twists and turns.  I cannot find a source for your grandfather Charles' birth date (31 Oct 1858) or place (Ballintate, Ballymoyer), there is some evidence that he was born in Scotland.

    Best regards

    Rex Sinnott
