My GG greatfather Alexander Stewart  married Mary Wright 13/12/1849 in Banbridge. He was a farmer from Strannaghan. I have the marriage record which states his father was Robert Stuart and hers Alexander Wright but no mother's names mentioned. Grateful for any help.

  • Hi David

There are 2 marriage records of Alexander Stewart to Mary Wright 1849 in Down on www.rootsireland.ie/

    The parish is Banbridge Presbyterean.

It costs to view the full record but it MAY have his age and /or parents' names to help you find his birth record. There are 4 Alexander Stewart baptism records 1813-26 in Down on rootsireland so will need more info to pick the right one.

There are 8 Stewarts in Down in the Tithe Applotments in 1828 but no mention of Shanaghan.

  • I have obtained the church marriage record for Alexander Stewart and Mary Wright but only the 2 father's were mentioned on the certificate. Is there any other record that would say who the mother's were? I have hit a brick wall with my research. Thank you. (Alexander was a farmer of Strannaghan not Shannaghan)

  • All I can suggest is that you post again with Strannagan mentioned in the title and hope a Down expert may be able to assist.
