Looking for William and Mary Marshall - birth, marriage, death and land records.  Believe part of their family were sons James R and John.  James married Keady Presbyterian Church in 1853 and emmigrated to New York City in 1854.  Looking for William's parents, Michael and Margaret Marshall - birth, marrage, death and land records.  Family may also have lived in Eglish Parish, Armagh.

  • Looking at the GRONI indexes, James Marshall appears to have married Martha Symington on 8.1.1853. Do you have a copy of that certificate? If so, what were the couple?s respective townlands when they married? What were their 2 father?s occupations? This information may enable me to locate them in the land records. You can view the certificates on-line on the GRONI website, using the ?search registrations? option:

    https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk

(You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs ?2 to a view a certificate).

Tradition was to marry in the bride?s church (which should be on the certificate, unless it was a Registry Office marriage). That church may be the place to look for her baptism and that of any siblings. Let me know the details of the church from the certificate (ie name and denomination) and I?ll tell you what records exist and where they are kept.

  • My apologies for this long delay.  I have recently received a Certified Copy of an Entry in Marriage Registration Records for my great grandparents, James Robert Marshall and Martha Simington who married January 8, 1853.  It contains the following information: Marriage solemnized at Keady Meeting House in the Parish and Town of Keady. James' Rank was listed as Bleacher, unsure of spelling, Their residence appears to be the same place, C?sclea?  Their fathers, William Marshall and Arthur Symington are listed as farmers.  One of the witnesses was John McClelland.  He might have been a brother-in-law.

Sincere thanks for any help you can provide in regard to the families of James and Martha in Ireland.  The young couple came to America in 1854, but for a number of years lived in Ontario, Canada before settling in Genesee County, Michigan in 1880.

I am currently writing a family history book on my great grandparents on both sides of my family.  I would love to learn more about my Ireland roots that I might include.

Thank you so very much for your help.
