Searching for my GGG Grandfather's John Louden, birth place.

He was born in 1783 in Ireland, possibly County Armagh.

Also my GG Grandfather, John Louden, born 1806, probably County Armagh.

Both emigrated to Canada via New York around 1820.

  • Hi,

Thank you very much for your message.

Unfortunately it may be difficult to find both John?s birth place given their early date of birth. The reality of finding documentation pertaining to births/baptisms/marriages/deaths in Ireland prior to 1800 ? particularly in rural areas ? is that they simply may not exist.

In addition to this any records that do exist will be church records. Most of these are still held locally so you really need to know what parish they were baptised in to find their record.

It may be an idea to contact Armagh Ancestry to see if they can be of any assistance. Here is a link showing what church records they have online:

As you can see there are a few parishes where the records go back as far as the late 1700?s so you may be lucky and find something in one of these parishes. Here is Armagh Ancestry?s email address, however please note that a fee may apply:

    Kind regards,
