Seeking info about Humphrey Johnston (Johnson?) and wife Margaret Whitcraft who left Ireland around 1800-1815 range emigrating to Canada. Humphrey was a weaver. Believe he came from Armagh area. Looking specifically for ancestors of Humphrey as I know of his descendants. Fred Johnson johnsonfb@tbaytel.net

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I had a look on www.rootsireland.ie but could not find any record of a baptism or marriage for Humphrey. It could be that he was born and married at a time that predates the parish records. This is especially true as your search is very early. As civil registration does not begin until 1864 we are dependent on parish records for the period before this. Records for some parishes begin earlier than others. For Armagh for example, some Church of Ireland parish records begin in the 1700s others don?t start until the 1820s and 1830s. Have you searched ancestry.com  family trees and message boards to ascertain if anyone has already discovered more about your ancestor?

Let us know if you learn anything new.

    Best wishes
