Do you have any other information you can share?

Information such as:

?         Parish name

?         Parents? names

?         Religious denomination

?         Dates and circumstances of emigration

?         Were John and Mary married? If so, did they marry in Ireland or Scotland?

Most important is a parish name. Most Irish record sources- church records, land records, census records- are based on specific locations. Until you know a specific location within Ireland, preferably a parish or placename, it may be difficult to do anything more with these records.

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

Thanks for the tips, but unfortunately I do NOT have a parish.  

As far as I know they were Catholic.

John Gamil (b: 1818)  and Mary McKee (b: 1816)  were born in Ireland and I assume married ( about 1837 ) in Ireland.

They had 4 boys born in Ireland (according to an 1861 Census - Scotland):

     Thomas  1838   Born Ireland

     John         1839

     Andrew     1842

     James     1844

Since the next child is born in Scotland, this is when they emmigrated to Scotland.

     George    1846  Born Scotland

     Patrick      1850

     Mary Jane 1855

     Joseph     1856

     Daniel       1858 About

Have you tried doing a search for any family members at Family Search? This is a huge database of genealogical records which has been compiled by the Church of the Latter Day Saints. It includes

?         Ireland births and baptism 1620-1880

?         Ireland marriages 1619-1898

Although these are not complete collections you may be lucky and find some record of the family. If you do, it will give you a parish name. You can search it here:

You could also try searching church records at http://rootsireland.ie/ However, you have to pay a fee to use this website.

As they were in Ireland up until 1844 you may be able to find some record of them in the Tithe Applotment Books. These are land records that were compiled between 1823 and 1837 in order to determine the amount which occupiers of agricultural holdings should pay in tithes to the Church of Ireland. Although they do not offer any genealogical information they can sometimes be used to tie a person to a specific place. Unfortunately, only some parishes are available for Armagh online. Yes, I use https://familysearch.org/search daily.  I've uploaded all my data as a GEDCOM file, and I've created my 
Family Tree.  See attached file.

I registered and went into  http://rootsireland.ie/ as you suggested, but nothing matched.

Tried the  http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp and got:

No Results

I will try all the orther sites but without knowing a parish as you pointed out earlier and without exaxt dates or parents, I fear my expectation arrow is pointing to expect more of that "more results" stuff.
