  • Elizabeth,

You haven’t said what denomination Alexander was but if he was born around Ballycastle in about 1788, the bad news is that there are no church records for any denomination that might tell you his parents or who he married (assuming he married in the early 1800s).

I looked for a will but he does not appear to have left one, or at least not one that required probate anyway.

Then death certificate might give you a little information ie whether his wife was still alive. The informant’s identity might be helpful too, but that apart I think you may struggle to find out much more about him.

Thank you Elwyn for your information. All I have is the gravestone that said Alexander buried Margaret who died on 25/11/1870 aged 82yrs. I believe Alexander was of the Protestant faith. So far that is all I have found. It doesn't look as if I will find out anymore but I must try. At least I know he was still alive in 1870. Regards Elizabeth.

  • Elizabeth,

Is this Alexander’s own death in 1884, at the age of 101? A miner from Poor Row, Ballycastle. He lived to be a good age.
