John Hayes, from the Parish of Carrick, near the town of Carrickfergus, Co. Antrim, was my great grandfather. He joined the British Army (6th Foot Corps) on 23rd March 1880 at Templemore. This army service was for six years and six years army reserve (1st Class). He married my great grandmother, Bridget Dillon from Tullamore, Kings Co., on 17th November 1882 (I don't know where the marriage took place, although I know his religion was listed as Protestant but my great grandmother's side of the family were Catholic). He served in Ireland from February 26, 1880 to September 22, 1884, in the West Indies from September 23 1884 to May 3, 1886, back in Ireland from May 4, 1886 to ecember 29, 1886 and finally from 30 December 1886 in South Africa, Pietermaritzburg, Natal, where he was discharged.
My grandmother, Mary Jane Hayes was born on 21 September 1883 (I'm not sure which Parish this would have been in), then followed Adelaide 1886, John 1889, Kathleen Bridget 1889. Any information on either my grandfather or grandmother and their families would be greatly appreciated.
We are visiting Ireland around the middle of September this year and would love to know any more about family that lived there.
Thank you.

Thank you for the information Tom, it is much appreciated. We arrive in Belfast on the 19th September and will spend the first night up near Giants Causeway. We have hired a house in Oughterard for the rest of the trip (hire car) and will travel out from there. Unfortunately this will not be a long trip as we leave again on the 25th but shall try and make the most of the time we are there.
Regards,
Anthony
