Description of Monkstown
Monkstown is suggested by most locals as the the town of the monk, was once called the parish of Ballinvannegh. This parish is in the barony/vicinity of Kerrycurrihy. It is situated 14 miles from the City of Cork and is on the estruary of the river lee. There are some great scenery and spots to look at around he area including Great island and of Course Monkstown Bay.
Findings
The name of the village is taken from an early monastic site which presently the Monkstown castle now stands.
Historians and archaeoligists have not found any prooof of item or identity in the monastery to suggest who worked there and what they done.
Baile an Fealach is classified as Foley's homestead but in later years it was known as Ballyfouloo.
