DISTRICT
The civil parish of Killummod (Cill Lomad - St. Lomad's Church) is in the barony of Boyle, in north Co. Roscommon. It is part of the district now known as the Plains of Boyle which was previously the Mac Dermott kingdom of Magh Luirg [aka Moylurg] .
Killummod parish covers an area of 20.8 km² and encompasses Lisdaly lake, Canbo Lough and part of Corbally Lough. (It was once home to Ballinvilla Lough, now disappeared). The Killukin rIver runs through this parish, crossed by the R368 road from Elphin to Carrick-on-Shannon at Killummod townland.
NEAREST TOWNS
The village of Croghan was the population centre for Killummod and other surrounding parishes. See also Boyle. The address given by emigrants on ship's manifests, was often the nearest market town i.e. Carrick-on-Shannon (to the east) or Croghan village (to the west). The PLU (Workhouse) for Killummod was Carrick-on-Shannon. The Electoral District (DED) is Killummod.
