William Maughan died in Australia June 1872 aged 63. His death certificate listed his parents as Patrick Maughan and Ellen Mullaly, born County Mayo. He was a convict, tried in Mayo Spring Assizes 1836, and transported to Sydney the same year aboard the convict ship "Earl Grey". Can anyone shed light upon where I may look the see where he may have grown up and details of his crime? Many thanks, Wayne

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Not many RC baptismal records are available for Co. Mayo back to 1809. I did search on the subscription site Roots Ireland but did nit find a record. I looked on the subscription site Find My Past but did not locate any records for the 1836 Mayo Spring Assizes.
Have you considered DNA testing.
You may want to add William's story to our XO Chronicles site. https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-dat…
