Hi looking for information on William Leslie born c1764 in Nenagh, Tipperary.  The earlies information I have on him is when he joined the 5th Regiment of Foot on 25 June 1782 at Nenagh.  When he was discharged from the army (then in the 24th Regiment of Foot) in 1813 he became a Chelsea Pensioner (not in the Hospital) until his death on 16 April 1835, this date is from the Regimental records.  So I am looking for his birth & family and also his place of death & burial (not listed in the records).  Any help would be appreciated.

  • I'm afraid this is the only Leslie baptism record from Tipperary on www.rootsireland.ie/; looks like the name William was passed on (if this is your line) and that the military profession was still the one of choice.

I couldn't find the parents' marriage to work back from.

There are no Tipperary records in the 1831, 31 or 41 Irish Censuses & no Leslies in Tipp in the Tithe Applotments

  • Thank you for the information.  William did have a son names William who followed him into the army, but made his home in England when he retired.  Perhaps the William you found is a relative, cousin perhaps.  I will certainly look into it. Thanks again
