My Great Grandfather was William (Kenny or Kenneth) Farrell, born about 18 Dec, 1843, to Parents John and Mary Farrell (nee Kenny or Kennedy) in Ballingarry, Townland of Gortfree. He came to Australia, died in 1917 at Ouyen in Victoria.

Hello Brandubh,
I looked for his parents marriage certificate but only got a blank. However, I did find William's birth certificate along with his siblings. There were 7 in the family.
Good luck with your research

The subscription site Roots Ireland has a February 27 1844 marriage between a John Farrell and Mary Kenny. The RC parish is Ballycallan/Kilmanagh in Co. Kilkenny. Ballycallan RC parish borders Co. Tipperary near Ballingarry. The other issue is that William was born in December 1843. So maybe the marriage I located is for a different couple or Mary Kenny had William Farrell and then the couple married in her home parish two months later.

By the way, I attempted to find the marriage record on the NLI parish register site. However, the Ballycallan marriages on the NLI site start in July 1845. Roots Ireland has marriage records back to 1820 but no register.

Thank you so much for this information, I had almost no information about William. He had some moderate success in Australia, managing to become the first Shire President of Walpeup in Victoria. He also appears to have had some level of education and possibly travelled in or to Italy before coming to Australia. Again thank you, I can fill in much more family history. Best regards,
