Hi all, I just found this record in the National Archives website, any suggestions of where I can look next to find any info on my ancestor. Cheers from Andrew in Australia.

  •  In Griffith's Valuation of Leitrim in 1857, there were five heads of household named McAweeny.  It is likely Michael was from one of these families.

  • Bono,

FindMyPast is a paysite that has court records. There is a record in 1846 for Michael McAweeney in Smithfield prison in Dublin. He was born in 1823. There is a possibility to do a free trial with FindMyPast. If you decide to take the free trial be sure to unsubscribe as there is automatic renewal. The 'cost' of the free trial is a few emails asking you to join! Alternatively, there is occasional free access around November 11.

  • Bono,

Attached transcription of the conviction of Michael McAweeny and John Leddy.  Both convicted of the same crimes.

Their physical description is recorded on the full sheet.
