I received a death certificate for my ancestor Michael Quinlivan died 1873, he was 75 - a labourer at Manus. His wife was Catherine Quinlivan. Could someone please let me know where Manus is? They were Roman Catholic - what parish would they have belonged to.
Many thanks
Helen

I think this is Manus....... Manus more
Manusmore Townland, Co. Clare (townlands.ie)If you are ever looking again, on the record look where the area ..... Ennis.....this is the registration district so it has to be somewhere near the town of Ennis.
Then search...........townland in Ennis and drill through the list. Then to find a Parish look at the townland map then pinpoint the Parish in here.

Helen,
Here's a link to the register page showing Michael's death. It gives the cause of death and shows that Catherine signed with "her mark."

Helen,
The Tithe Applotment Records - 1826 - 1842 records Manus Beg and Manus More in the parish of Clareabbey. It is now known as Clarecastle/Ballyea.
Griffith's Valuations c1850 - printed 1855 - does not have a record of Manus Beg. It does have Manusmore which it records in the parish of Clareabbey.
I attach copies of the records. No record of a Quinlivan in either. To be registered a person had to have an interest in property. The 1901 Irish census does not have a record of any Quinlivan, so apparently no family members remained in the townland.

McCoy

Many thanks to you all. I will research Manusmore. According to one history article the locals would refer to it as Manus

Hi Helen,
Are you sure Manus's wife was Catherine?
The death record indicates Catherine Quinliven witnessed his death, but it does not say she was his wife. Could have been a daughter or sister. So I'm just double-checking with you.

Yes I have documentation that Catherine immigrated with her youngest son to Wellington NZ to join her daughters.
