Hi, My name is Stephen Nugent and i along with my wife Rose will be visiting Ireland and Bansha Tripperay from aprrox the 22nd to 24 th August 2024.
I was hoping to connect with someone prior to our arrival with the aim to meet up whilst we are there and to help me in my quest to gain some greater understanding of my Irish heritage within my family tree.
My research so far has taken me back to my great *4 grandfather Michael Nugent born Circa 1785 married to Mary Burke. His sons John and wife Mary Murnane ( married 23/1/1839 Bansha / Kilmoyler) and their children along with my Great *3 grandfather James Nugent and Honora Murnane (Marys' sister), ( later married in Ballarat 27/2/1858).
They all Migrated to Australia for the gold rush in circa 1853.
The detail i have includes that they resided in Bansha (Toureen) in the diocese of Cashel and Emly in the Parish of Bansha and Kilmoyler
We are still book accomodation and finilise our travel plans for Bansha and would appreciate any suggestions of recommendation
I would appreciate any assistance you come provide in my endeavours.
My email is stephenbnugent@gmail.com
With Thanks
Steve Nugent

Steve:
If you have not done so already, please complete this form https://www.irelandxo.com/meet-and-greet regarding your August visit to Ireland. I don't live in Ireland so I can't assist with where to stay.
I searched on the subscription site FindMyPast.ie and it appears that the wife of Michael Nugent was Mary or Ellen Hoar(e) not Mary Burke. Below are five baptismal records I located in the 1820s and 1830s in Bansha RC parish. I wonder if Mary and Ellen were the same person or did Ellen die and Michael married her sister Mary. The 1853 record further below also raises questions. Did Mary Hoar(e) die and Michael married Margaret Bourke? The Michael born in 1836 would have been 17 in 1853 and technically could have been the father but likely it was the elder Michael who was the father.
Let me know what questions you might have.

James Nugent baptized January 3 1823 father Michael Nugent mother Ellen Hoar
Mary Nugent baptized August 4 1826 father Michael Nugent mother Ellen Hoare

Hi Margot and Rodger,
A big big thank you to you both, Margot and Rodger, for your quick responses.
I really appreciate your help and all the assistance you can provide me in helping me traverse the mysteries of my family tree..., especially for me as a novice form so far away.
I am sorry its been a few days to respond but i have been away and out of communication.
I will respond to you both separately:
Margot, I have also noted Patricks' details when i have unsuccessfully been trying to locate the transport records for John and James etc,
At this stage i am not sure what relation he is to us? .... what has crossed my mind is that he may be the catalyst for them emigrating to Australia circa 1852.
Any additional information you discover when the two sites you mentioned are back on line would be greatly appreciated.
Rodger,
Thanks for your advice and i have completed the form as suggested.
I have also reviewed the baptismal records you have noted and have a copy of the same records. I have wondered the same thing you identified regarding Mary Burke and Mary Hoar. At this stage based on my findings i am not sure if what you suggest is correct or we are looking at a different line of the family?
With regards to James and John Nugent in my line as far as i see it.
I have visited both there graves in Ballarat and have both death certificates
John death certificate has his date of death 13 December 1902 aged 95 ... Parents are listed as Michael Nugent farmer and Mary re Burke, Born in Tipperay and 50 years in Victoria.
Using this information i worked back that he would have been born in 1807 and arrived in Australia/ Victoria in circa 1852 at age 45.
Mary's grave records show she died on 11/11/1901 at 86. This would make her DOB 1815 and age 37 when she arrived in Australia.
Their Marriage certificate (on the CMCR Project) show his marriage to Mary Murnane both from Toureen Bansha on 23/1/1839. This would make him 32 when married and Mary 24.
James death certificate has his date of death 18 October 1896 aged 63 ... Parents are listed as Michael Nugent farmer and Mary re Burke, Born in Tipperary and 43 years in Victoria.
Using this information i worked back that he would have been born in 1833 and arrived in Australia/ Victoria in circa 1853. at age 20.
Honora's grave records show she died on 28/11/1919 at 82. This would make her DOB 1837 and age 15/16 when she arrived in Australia.
Their Australian Marriage certificate show their marriage on 27/2/1858. This would make him 25 when married and Mary 21. 5/6 years after they arrived in Australia.
I have been working on the assumption that two brothers married two sisters (one in Ireland and one in Aust) and they all emigrated to Australia together.... Now a query has come into my mind that John and James where father and son as John would have been 26 when James was born and Mary would have been 18. ... If Honora was Mary's sister there would have been a 22 year age gap... so i am wondering what the relationship was?
Margot and Rodger thanks again for stimulating my thopughts yet again. I would appreciate any additional information that yoiu could provide
Thanks again
Steve Nugent
