Trying to find Death Certificate

Yes, you are correct in assuming the first Martin passed away and the 2nd child was named after him.  
On  irelandgenealogy.ie      it shows Martin passed in the 4th quarter of 1867      -  see link:

Thanks for your reply but I don't think it is the same person.  I can see the Birth of Martin Farrell in 1867 and the district is Sligo.  I can also see one in Athlone in 1867 but different parents so that makes me think that the death in Athlone is that one.  

Any idea why some of the info on Irish Genealogy doesn't have the image?

Hi Liz,

Death Certs only started in 1864 - 1971 and the digitising of them was done manually, so errors can occur. 

I also took a look at familysearch.org and no luck there either.
All records are kept in Roscommon, maybe an email to them might prove positive.

As Phyl noted, civil registration started in 1864, however, in the initial years as many as 20% of the events were not recorded particularly in rural areas. Likely the death of the 1867 Martin was not recorded.

Looks like I've hit a dead end on this one. 

Another question if you don't mind.  Is Kings County near to Sligo?  The reason I ask is two ancestors John Farrell from Sligo and Catherine Farrell from Kings County (both with the same surname just to make it more difficult ) were married in Dundee in 1884.  John's parents remained in Sligo.  I don't know if they met in Dundee or knew each other before.

No, Sligo and Kings County (AKA County Offaly) are not near each other. A good resource that I use all the time to view counties, RC parishes, and civil parishes in Ireland is www.johngrenham.com.  Click on browse at the top of the page, and then a menu appears to view the aforementioned.

Just read my message, and I don't know how ".&nbsp" got attached to that address....just ignore that part! A google search of John Grenham will get you there too.

Thanks for your help.  That was very good to see where the Counties were.  Looks like these two ancestors moved to Dundee at different times and met and married there.
