I'm hoping to find the town and parish of my 2X great grandparents. Griffiths Valuation shows many named Thomas Walsh. I'm hoping a church registry might match some of the information I have.
Thomas and his wife Ellen are shown in the 1860 Minnesota Census, both age 60. They left Ireland during the Potato Famine 1848-49 and settled in Maine with their surviving children: Catherine (1824), Peter (1827), Thomas (1831) and Edward (1839-40). The years of birth of the children are approximated from Minnesota Census records. The family moved to Minnesota in 1857 and homesteaded 160 acres in Dakota County. A warranty deed from Thomas Walsh identifies him as being from “Cork County”.
I have searched the 1844-1845 - Aldwell's County and City of Cork Post-Office General Directory and found many Walshes, but only two named Thomas. One is shown in Shanagarry, profession “seamount”, address 110 Douglas Street. After emigrating, we believe Thomas and his son Peter worked as blacksmiths or shipsmiths building ships in Maine. If this is my Thomas, the parish may be Cloyne.
I would like to visit the place of my grandparents birth. Thank you!

Mary,
I searched the subscription site rootsireland.ie which has many church records for Cork. Cork city is not included but the records for the city are freely available at irishgenealogy.ie (search under Church records). Please note that there are parishes where there are no records going back to the 1820s-1830s. There was no record of Catherine, Peter, Thomas and Edward born to Thomas and Ellen on rootsireland.ie.
Best wishes, Kieran
