I am trying to find out more about THOMAS KILROE, b Fohanagh between 1798 and 1807. Can anyone suggest where I could look to find a birth record, if one exists, and to find out who his parents were.
He married Jane Berry I have no info when or where they were married, and know nothing about Jane.
Unsourced information is that they had a daughter in1838. THen a son Thomas, who was born in Edinburgh on 3 April 1839 (or 1841). THomas Snr was apparently in the army. I can't find any enlistment record, and wonder why he joined up.
Four more children: Ellen 1840, Julia Sept 1842, Caroline 1850 and Matilda 1850.
Thomas was sent to South Africa with the 7th Dragoon Guards Sailed 10 April, arrived in Cape Town 14 July. I can't find any passenger lists or shipping records for these dates.
I suspect he was one of 38 who left the unit when it was about to return to the UK in 1848, and might have been employed as a blacksmith in Grahamstown
He died in Burghersdorp in 1854.
The South African Commercial Advertiser Tuesday 10 October 1854
DEATHS Sept 18: At Burghersdorp, in his 56th year, Thomas KILROE, blacksmith, formerly of Fohanagh, County Galway, Ireland. M.I.P.
I would really like to know more about THOMAS KILROE's and JANE BERRY's Irish ancestry, and would appreciate any assistance or suggestions.
Many thanks
Col

Col:
The Fohenagh RC records start in 1827. I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find the Thomas Kilroe marriage record. I also did not find any Kilroe baptismal records around 1839 with a father named Thomas.
