I am looking for information on my family member Terrence O'Toole. The information I have was that he is a native from Waterford County Ireland. Born 1790 and left Waterford in 1820 for St. John, Newfoundland. I am unable to find parish information for Terrence. If anyone has information I would be very greatful.

  • Hi Kris!

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

There are a good number of RC parishes in Co. Waterford which have records back to the late 18th century. However, when I searched for Terrence O'Toole baptismal records on the subscription site Roots Ireland, no records were found in Co. Waterford. Likely he was baptized in a church that no longer has records back to that time period.

You may want to add Terrence's emigration story to out XO Chronicles site and possibly someone will see a connection. https://irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-database

  • Hello Kris

My ancestor was Michael O'Toole who  married Mary Divan in Renews, Newfoundland in 1839.  His marriage record states he came from Waterford.  Specifically, the parish of Killea.  That might be a lead for you.

I also know there was a Terrence O Toole in Caplin Bay in Newfoundland in early 1800's as well.  That community is now called Calvert but it is close to Renews, and I have always wondered if my family were related to the O'Tooles in that nearby community.  Another lead for you.

The Terrence O Toole in your tree, did he live on the South side of St. John's?
