I have Catherine Temple who married Samuel Bates in my family tree. I'd appreciate any information about the Temple family and, if possible, Samuel Bates.

There are 10 Catherine Temple's listed between 1864 and 1921. There are four near to Garrison Hill.
Date or year of birth, siblings, parents. Where did she marry?
Samuel Dean there are 19 listed.
Did they stay in Ireland?
New Zealand may be with you using Kiwi?
All above would be a help.Margot

In 1857 in Griffith's Valuation of Donegal, there was a head of household named Samuel Bates:
Griffith Bates Samuel Garrisonhill Donaghmore Co. Donegal You can see more at askaboutireland.ie.

Note Catherine, widow, age 84, Presbyterian. She is likely the widow of Samuel Bates.

Marriage of what looks to be a daughter of Samuel Bates in 1860. The dash by his occupation then suggests he had died before 1860.
Tradition was to marry in the bride’s church (after which she’d attend her husband’s). This marriage was in Stranorlar 1st Presbyterian (Donaghmore) so that may be the Bates family church.
Another daughter marrying in same church. Samuel’s occupation given as farmer.
More childrens marriages:
This might be one too (townland isn’t Garrisonhill but father’s name and occupation fit):
2 Bates farms in Garrisonhill in the 1901 census:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Donegal/Gleneely/Garrisonhill/1198364/
Above household includes widowed Catherine Bates and 2 children.
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Donegal/Gleneely/Garrisonhill/1198363/
Above household headed by James appears to be Samuel & Catherine’s son, as far as I cna determine.
Griffiths Valuation for 1857 shows Samuel Bates on plot 1 in Garrisonhill. (It was a 42 acre farm). So that suggests he died between 1857 and 1860.

Kia Ora,
Thank you Margot and Paricia for your reply to my query.
All the data you provided fits into the Bates genealogy very nicely. The Marriage of John Bates to Margaret Roulston is part of the families' stories as John had wanted to marry Jane, Margaret's younger sister, but was told he had to marry Margaret. My family is descended from that marriage. On Margaret's death John travelled to the States, where Jane had emmigrated to, found her, married her and returned to Ireland only to die there a year after being reunited with Jane.
My mother's family emigrated to NZ in 1927 and settled in Whanganui as farmers.
nga mihi,
Alan
