Surnames Feeny and Regan/Reagan/Rogan

I took a quick look at the online Irish phone book which only covers land line phones. There were a good number of Regan entries in the Ballina area but only one Feeney entry.

Thank you, Roger, for doing that, much appreciated. It's only recently I found out that there was a Feeny/Feeney surname in my family. They left Ireland not long after the Famine, I believe, and went to Liverpool.

Regan and Feeny were / are common names in the Ballina area. There are quite a number of them (sometimes with different spellings) in the Kilmoremoy Parish records, which start in about 1820. They are available online, with free access here: https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0753

One thing to note is that in the 1800's, part of Kilmoremoy Parish was in County Sligo, but the borders were adjusted in 1898.

Thanks John, esp. for the info that part of Kilmorelmoy had been in Sligo, I was getting confused by some records I was seeing. My Regan crowd were actually called Rogan until they got to Liverpool, where for some reason the name was changed; perhaps by some official, as the family weren't literate. I've since learned that my Rogan ancestor's mother's maiden name was Ruane, which I believe is still common in the area. According to my ancestry.com DNA there's still folks who are (fairly distant) cousins in the area.
