The RC records for Howth start in 1784  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0662   I checked the subscription site Roots Ireland for records in North Dublin including Howth and the earliest Stephen Griffin baptismal record on Roots was in 1833. Likely your Stephen was born in a parish before records are available. There are Griffin baptismal records in Howth in 1785 (Anne) 1786 (Thomas) 1786 (Michael) Rose (1788) John (1789)  Possibly some of these Griffins are related to Stephen.

Thank you Roger. I will create a summary of the genealogy and include records where possible to the Chronicle.

In fact I have done DNA testing through family tree DNA. I did test for all 500, but right now just the Y111 results are in. Still waiting for the rest. As of now it looks like no relatives with the surname have tested as much as the Y111. In fact the higher the testing no one matches from the Y database. So it didn't provide recent connections (recent meaning tying loose ends of my paper trail research). It did provide neat information, just not with family mapping.

I have a complete paper trail the starts with the marriage of Stephen and Jane (Ward) Griffin in 1803. I did find Jane's baptism in 1776. That was found on the NLI website. Stephen Griffin has me stuck for the moment.

Since their marriage was in Howth, I am making the assumption Stephen was baptised there. Jane was born in Swords, and so was their son Nicholas. I'll post the story shortly and thank you for that suggestion. If you have DNA testing through ftdna, let me know and I can share my kit #.

I have done the Y-111 test thru Family Tree and also the Family Finder (autosomal) test. I have also tested with Ancestry and have my data on Gedmatch  T690844

My paternal line comes from Mayo and Roscommon and my maternal line from Doonegal and Down.

That's terrific Roger. I have up to Y111 posted on gedmatch also, T367886. Once I have it all in a few weeks I'll update it and also upload it all to the data wharehouse for the Ytree too.
