My Flahertys lived in Inishmore on the Aran Islands. Would it be normal for them to baptize a daughter at St. Nicholas Church in 1848 ? What is St. Nicholas Church exactly ? How does it it into the parish of Tuam ?
If the Flahertys were a clannish group, would it be likely that a Flaherty would marry a Flaherty ?
In Canada, most children are baptised as Joseph or Mary. Does Ireland have such a pattern ?
What port would the people of the Aran islands deport from if emigrating ? The Bay of Galway does not seem likely or a big ship carrying passengers unless they were rowed out to the ship.
Would a amily have to be well out to survive in Ireland until 1853 ? And why emigrate then when the worst of the famine was over ?
The Flahertys who I think are mine lived in Inishmore and were farmers, netmakers and fishermen.
Thank you for all replies.
