Hello and thank you in advance if anyone can shed some light.

My ancestor Peter Kane was born somewhere near Galway in 1780.  I have not found much to go on to trace him other than his son John was born in 1818 and immigrated to the US in 1843.

I found an entry in the Tuam parish registry from Dec 5, 1807 noting the marriage of Peter Kane and Mary Bird Turlonshan (? last name difficult to read).  The marriage was witnessed by Beverly Bird.

Since the dates seem to make sense I am assuming that this is my ancestor's marriage.

Here are my two questions -

In that time in Ireland would a woman using two last names like this be a widow?

Would it be reasonable to assume with such limited information that this Peter Kane is the same man who later lived in Galway?

    I tried to find the full page of the parish register to get a broader view but for some reason, I can't find the record that you have in the screen shot.

    I believe that the word after Mary Bird is actually a place name not part of her name.

    There is no way at this point to make a reasonable conclusion that this Peter Kane is your ancestor. You would need some evidence that shows his wife was Mary Bird possibly DNA matches who have Bird connections. Baptismal records for children which shows parents names etc.
