Mt maternal Gt Grandmother Elizabeth Hughes was born c 1846 in Liverpool. I have deduced the birth year from the later census returns - she later lived in London where my Grandmother was born.
Family legend says that the Hughes family came to England from Cork. Although my Gt Grandmother raised two children she seems not to have married and seems to have given the name of her father as father to the children according to their marriage certificates. This has meant I cannot find her birth certificate.
Unusually, I think, My gt grandmother gave birth to the first child aged 37, She was working as a cook in Chelsea and the baby was born in the Chelsea Workhouse but she discharged herself a short time after the birth. The records of this have been found. The children were baptised in the RC church records.
I would like to hear from anyone in Cork connected to the Hughes who knows some members relocated to Liverpool. I have her on the 1851 census boarding as a child in Flintshire in Wales with a family named Jones and a very old lady there also name Hughes who I guess is mother in law to Mr Jones.
Family that would have known more details about this have all passed on now. I was the youngest of the youngest in the immediate family so as information has come to light on line I have no one left to check anything with. Thank you.

Hi Margaret,
Who are the parents of Elizabeth Hughes? Are they the people who emigrated from Cork? WIthout names, it's not possible to look for them.
What was your grandmother's name? What was the name of her father? Thank you.
