Hi, These might be your relatives as well. This is from a list of Tipperary people going to Australia only up to 1865.
TRIHY  -widow- Sarah  
To Australia in 1850 aged 38
Parents were Maurice / Catherine  KINEALY both dead
She was with her children  {&4ch=Maurice,16 ;Julia,13;Johanna,10 & Patrick,4} Ship = Elizabeth.
You would need to go to your site in Australia called TROVE and get more details.

Carhue, some where I saw it as Carrow, can't find it now, if you are on a PC put Carhue map in search then on another search put Carrow map.
They are next to each other.
A Lawrence Ryan is listed in Griffiths Valuation in 1850 in Carrow.

I believe my Judith Trihy was born in 1844 and travelled to Australia in 1876 with her husband Laurence Ryan (born 1840) and at least 3 young daughters, possibly as well as a 13 year old son (think he was listed as a single male vs a child of other passengers). When she travelled she was listed as Johanna, and the births of her two further children here in Australia have her first name as Johanna. I have read these two names were quite interchangable at the time. My research hase identified a possible 2 or 3 other children that don't appear to have immigrated with them, which has me baffled. One daughter would have only been 9 years old so unsure why she would have been left behind.

I *think* I have identified her father as being named 'Daniel', but I am not yet 100% as no father name was listed on the marraige record that I have found online. I was wondering if the parish or any other records located in Ireland would have a more official certificate with greater details, such as parent's names? This would be so great! 

My Laurence Ryan would have only been about 10 years old in 1850, Margot, but the odds are high that it could be his father or an uncle couldn't it? Thanks so much for finding that info!

I now think I misidentified my great-great grandmother and feel I have a better match now and would love to cross reference with any info you have of the family, if you are still able to share it?!

Hi Cordangan Tipperary!

I'm sorry that I missed your reply regarding the Ryans of Carhue back in November!

Do you have any records of a Laurence Ryan, born approximately 1840? Married Judith Treehy (as spelled on marriage record) in 1862.

I feel they had some children that did not travel with them to Australia so may have stayed in Tipperary somehow? I have not been able to find any death records so these are my mystery family members! You may have some records of them also if they stayed behind? If I have identified them correctly, their names would be William (b. 1863),  John (b.1865) and Bridget (b.1867) - all Ryan surname obviously. 

Would you know of any reason young children would not immigrate with their parents and younger siblings? Very strange!

I've only just come across your thread.
My great, great, great grandfather was Cornelius Ryan from Carhue.

My Cornelius Ryan was born c.1812 in Carhue, Anacarthy.
He had at least one son with Mary ?, John b. circa1847.
John Ryan married Margaret Hurley of Glenough where they set up their family home; among their 9 (possibly 10) children was my great grandmother Mary Ryan-Hurley.

Cornelius died on 15 November 1888 in Carhue having lived a long life of 76 years.

If anyone here is connected to this Cornelius Ryan or has any further information I'd really appreciate your assistance.

While I don't think your Cornelius is a direct link to my personal family line, he seems to be born in a year that would be a similar range to when the father of my gg-grandfather I mentioned above (Laurence) was born. So given the tiny area that is Carhue, it could be logical to think Cornelius and my ggg-grandfather were potentially brothers. 

I haven't been able to identify with 100% certainty what the name of my ggg-grandfather was, but I the best match I have found so far was named John. Given the Irish naming patterns of that day, if Cornelius named his first son John, that would be a strong indicator that his father was named John (as they named the first son after the father's father). If I'm correct, then if my Laurence's father was John, then he could be the older/oldest brother of Corenelius, and then their father was also named John. 

That sounds so confusing sorry! But if you're able to make any sense of it, it coud be some potential names that may help you cross reference to your direct line, and it may also help me in the same way! :D

Hello from an Australian Ryan. My great-great-grandfather was Cornelius Ryan (1812-1888) and he married Mary Carroll in 1848. I think they had 10 children. My great-grandfather was their son Philip (1855). Philip emigrated to Australia in 1888. Carhue was always part of the family legend. Goold's Cross was also mentioned. I have more information if this connects with you.

It sounds very much like you are connected to Fiona above with Cornelius, and your info regarding Mary may give her some important info as well! And also think perhaps your Cornelius is connected to me as a great great uncle. Do you have any brothers of Cornelius listed by any chance? 

My Ryan's came over to Aus in 1876, straight to South Australia. 

 If you have Carhue in your family legend then that is fantastic, as it's such a tiny place that that kind of really specific info is like gold! I haven't heard of Goold's Cross though, that sounds like great additional info!

Cornelius Ryan and Mary Carroll were my GGG grandparents, their son John 1849-1924 was my GG grandfather. He married Margaret Hurley in 1878 and we then became known as the Ryan (Hurleys). John and Margaret lived in the townsland of Knockbaun/Glenough which is just a few fields away from Carhue House. We also had family living in the neighbouring townsland of Carrowkeal, with the strong possiblilty of more living nearby that I haven't been able to connect. We still live nearby in neighbouring parishes.

Cornelius Ryan and Mary Carroll were my GG grandparents and were married in 1848 in the parish of Anacarty (various spellings) & Donohill, diocese of Cashel & Emly, sponsor Conor Ryan, address, Carhue (?). I haven't found any siblings for Cornelius and Mary yet. So far I have found baptismal records for 10 of their children with extra help from Fiona's tree on Ancestry (thanks Fiona!): John (1849), Daniel (1851), James (1853), our Philip (1855), Thomas (1856) [all these baptism listed in Guthard/Gurtard, Anacarty, Donohill], Margaret (1859) baptism listed in Carrowkeale or Carhuekeal, Anacarty, Mary (1860) in Carhue, Patrick (1862) but still checking this one, Cornelius (1864), Laurence (1865). Some of these names were carried down in our family line. 

My G-grandfather Philip Ryan emigrated to Australia in 1888 and his wife and 4 children followed in 1889 and 4 more children were born in the state of Victoria Australia. The Ryans settled in Geelong. We didn't know we have relations in South Australia (next state to Victoria) so this is lovely news Rach.

We think our G-grandfather Philip Ryan may have been involved in the Plan of Campaign in Tipperary Town around 1888 and this may have been why he emigrated quite suddenly. Still researching this interesting one!

Rach, I'll keep a watch out for links to your records. Perhaps the second son's name Daniel could be a further lead.

We both have done DNA, and are on GEDmatch.  We match as 5th cousins, I went through all of Rachels matches

found one Ryan a 5th cousin   found no link there.  I have a lot done on my Trehy ancestors in the area, Its a scarce name And I feel they were 

all related, As well as Anacarty they were in Tipperary parish also Solohead , and Kilfeacle.

I am hoping to visit Ireland in the fall of 2025 and am trying to find out exactly where Carhue, County Tipperary is located.  My 2x great-grandparents are from that area, Rody Ryan and Bridget Comefred Ryan. They were married in Carhue in 1845.   Rody's parents were Martin Ryan and Honore Dunn.  They were married on 1810.  Bridget's parents were Martin Comefred and Catherine Ryan.  Catherine's maiden name was Ryan.  Rody and Bridget's first three children (possibly more) were baptized there in the Cashel and Emly Parish.  Does anyone have the exact location of Carhue?  I am also hoping to find some Ryan relatives that may still be living in the area.  Thank you for any help you may be able to provide.

Sorry for the slow reply!! 

The townland of Carhue is just outside of Dundrum in County Tipperary (see attached pic). I believe it has shrunk or changed much from back in the 1800's, but I was able to find a rough location on Google maps and then got some assistance by chance from some locals in a Dundrum cafe! It is not a town or village in itself.

Finding Ryan ancestors in Tipperary is like searching for a needle in a haystack! haha. It is a VERY common name there and it is so hard to find the right family tree branch. 

Wishing you lots of luck in finding your family, and enjoying the magic of Ireland. I dream of returning!!

Sadly she passed away  soon after her reply to you.

Finding  townland of Carhue will be easy, it will not have moved,  descendants of most of the residents will be the same.

Finding the  relatives, through DNA  ,will be far more important  in my opinion.
