Hello All ,
I am chasing information on Richard Duncan PIKE son of George PIKE DOB c1800 DOD c 1875
I know he married Isabella DOWNING on 7 Feb 1854 at St Columbs Church of Ireland in Templemore , Co Derry.
They had 3 daughters :Mary , Annabella & Wilhelmina and 1 son Richard Duncan Jr ,all born in Ireland and immigrated to New Zealand between 1879 to 1883.
His wife Isabella is buried in Dunedin, New Zealand by herself and there is no record of his death in New Zealand
On Mary's marriage certificate it lists her father Richard being a policeman , however the Irish Police have no record of him as a policeman.
Any information would be greatly appreciated .

Sarah,
The attached records may be of interest to you. The Revenue Police were stationed all over Ireland until disbanded.

Here’s a link to Richard’s marriage in 1854. According to that certificate Richard & his father George were farmers (not a policeman - at least at that date anyway).
Note that the bride lived in Broagh.
Here’s a death for a Richard Pike in Broagh in 1879, aged 69, so I suspect that looks like your Richard. He was a farmer and married. Son Richard was the informant. Presumably the father’s death was the trigger for the rest of the family to emigrate.
1 Downing family in the townland in 1901. I assume that was Isabella’s brother & nephews. No Pikes.

According the the Valuation Revision records on the PRONI website, the Pike farm in Broagh was 15 acres. Richard’s name was deleted in 1882 and he was replaced by James Shivers.

Sarah,
Some further information on Richard Pike. Apparently he was retired in 1853.

Thank you Elwyn and McCoy for finding this information . I have been busy researching as much as I can and have found some of these too.
I have just returned from NZ where I located Isabella (Downing) Pike's grave , she is just up the hill from my other 3 x great grandmother Sarah Jane (Mulholland) Adamson from Eden , Do Derry . MAny of the early immigrants are buried in this Northern Cemetery in Dunedin .
I am 99% certain This is "my" Richard Pike DOD1879 as his son present at his death has the exact same name . I also found Richard Duncan Pikes ( Jr ) grave in Dunedin while I was there.
In your travels have you happened to find anything on George Pike , Farmer ? The only George Pike I have unearthed is in Co. Cavan , a retired RIC policeman - not sure if this relevant ?
Many thanks again ,
Kind regards
