I am seeking information about my Great Great Grandparents who were supposedly from County Down, Richard and Caroline Fitzpatrick. Richard may have been a shoe maker as it seems to be a famlly trade. His son Henry migrated to Australia, having been born in Oxford.I have been researching this family for about 25 years . Please help! I am on Gedmatch as PP7906302.

Administrators of Ireland XO :I was wondering that with all your Irish records , you may be able to do a cemetary search of Ireland and find a place where there was a Richard Fitzpatrick buried next to his wife Caroline. Even if you had five results, it could be a start.

Thanks for considering my situation, Regards Viv in the Blue Mountains NSW

Life story of the Australian descendants:

  • Henry Fitzpatrick was born in Oxford, England ( From the DC) in 1818.His parents were Richard and Caroline.

  • 1846 Henry was in the County Murray  ( near Queanbeyan NSW) - from baptismal record of Richard in 1846 at the Molongolo River Queanbeyan -where there were farms along the river inhabited by Irish families.

  • Henry’s children:

  • Richard b 1846

  • Maria Agnes b 1853,

  • Carolina b 1855 ( v1855201572), deceased

  • Michael b. 21/5/1848,

  • Julia 8/4/1851.

  •

Caroline b 1855 ( v1855201572), deceased ( see DC)

From Carolines DC, we find she was born in Queanbeyan in 1855 .

From the Doctors report she may have been 9 months when  she developed Hooping Cough. ( Whooping Cough ).

When Caroline dies, the family have moved to Sydney. This was a big move for Henry’s wife, Mary Ann Connelly as she has left behind her parents and her siblings ( with their families) in the Queenbeyan region. It is possible the health of the baby necessitated a visit to Sydney and then they decided to stay in the city.

  • Most of the baptismal certificates give Henry’s occupation as a Shoe Maker ( Source UK Family History Forum)

  • Richards MC describes him as a bootmaker, a trade that was carried down to his son.

  • Richards DC describes him as a Mail Contractor.

  • His wife, Mary Ann Connelly ( born 1818 Tuam Ireland) died in 12/2/1873 so he was a widow for 13 years.

Henry’s Death

  • Carey St  Leichhardt at his son in laws home ( see funeral notice) ( 30/11/1886)

  • On Henry’s DC- parents are Richard ( farmer) and Caroline

  • Henry died of Bright’s Disease which is a kidney disease ( not inherited)

  • Find a Grave- details give his age as 69-70 , so born in 1816 roughly matches DC
